I keep hearing about this game but I have yet to actually play it *fail*

And I'm in LOVE with this! The color and shading is so great! I especially like the mix of yellows, greens, and browns in the trees. Also the lineart is so smooth~ Ahhhh so cool draw more pleaseeeee<3333

tryout. since i never finished my last tryout.. and i believe that i have improved since then..
okay its a crocodile thats suppose to be falling into water. it looks like it's dancing so i added in a little bow tie XD
and yes i know, my backgrounds suckkkkk
but i like the colouring on the croc 8D
timer lies a bit cos i ate dinner.

anyways, any constructive critiques would be appreciated (yes i've already spotted a few things, like the fact that a crocodile's tail most likely cant bend that far. its just that i ran out of canvas space and i didnt wanna resize it and ruin the picture XD and i didnt really do much scaley-ness.. it was hard enough to colour lol )

xD oh geez, the picture you referenced from made me laugh really hard
So first, I gotta say the pattern on the crocodile is just too cool <3
This picture feels very flat. Y'know that artist who makes paper cut-outs of animals? (I can't for the life of me remember his name) This reminds me of his stuff; you seemed to have focused on the patterns and not on the shading. While that style works well in some situations, I really wanna see more depth for your next tryout. Picking a lightsource and shading/highlighting in accordance to it is something you should try to do. I'm also having some trouble figuring out the background: is it water against the sky or water against water? Both ways would be a bit off perspective-wise. And I like the pattern in the water but... it's a bit boring?

idk, I'm tired and rambling.

I can tell you did take time and added gradients to the sky and texture tto the water, but, as stated above, a strong lightsource would dynamically improve this.

Though I do love your choice of composition xD Very cool! We like insteresting tryouts!

yes i agree, my backgrounds are always bland and ugly. i try to make em look half decent buttttt.. i see this one didnt want to turn out XD

I love you for using a ref! They really can be quite helpful~

I think you could have gone a bit more detailed and distinct with the textures of the scales but the tones and shades you used on the body are good enough that that?s not that big a problem. But yes I do feel a contrast in lights and darks would give this image a POP! I do like the idea you have going on here though. It?s always nice to see a variety of subject matters being used~ Well, good luck! Hope to see a second soon X]

one crit is that the fence would put a shadow over the water.

Yaaay Arfy you're done!!!

Ok so I'm a bit tired and typing on the Wii so I don't really think I'll go into much detail~
The stone wall is just wonderful, very pretty. I do think the buildings in the back are a bit... lacking? Idk, it's probably me, but you got these solid walls of pretty much one color- I dunno if you could've made a pattern or shaded/highlighted them more but uh THAT'S JUST ME, it's not really anything you have to worry about or whatever lol
I do think that the water is off though- water is a clear reflective surface, the reason it's blue is cuz it's reflecting off of the sky. So um the shadows of everything, while still being darker & blueish, should really be similarly colored to the thing that's casting the shadow--I'd give you a link but uh ON THE WII so yeah. I also wish you had broken up the colors of the water (you've got another one of those SOLID WALLS OF PRETTY MUCH ONE COLOR going on again), y'know, making it look more like, er, the water's moving a bit (idk, google search Venice or something). Uh.... sorry for making no sense rmtifdmifhdbr.
One last thing, I don't think Arf's tail should be bending up like that when she's lying down

BUT this is still a lovely tryout and I can't wait to see your next one bby <3333333

i rly like the constructive criticism kyuub<33 And I understand what you're saying completely. I slacked off on the water, partially because I was unsure of how to get the right colors to make the reflection, and also because I'm lazy.(Water is extremely difficult for me in solids.. should've used watercolors.)

I like the fact that while you did reference this you altered some things to make it your own, specifically the angel and railing. However, I think you could have used that reference more involving the colors and shades of things. Your drawing, while it does show some perspective, still seems rather flat. The stones are grey, water blue, dog brown and the shades and highlights are simply the one color but darker and lighter. But if you look at the reference you?ll see that the stones are more than just grey but have all sorts of shades and colors such as greens, blues, and reds. Also water (no matter where you are) isn?t just solid blue. In fact the colors found in water are mostly created by whatever is being reflected. Nonetheless this is a pretty decent tryout. The image itself is rather interesting and the subject is obviously involved with the background which is excellent! The composition is nice and the atmosphere is quite peaceful which goes well with the subject. Overall this drawing is wonderful! I can?t wait to see what you come up with for your second tryout! I like how everything is darkened from it being night, though I would've liked to see a more stroking lightsource, since everything is toned down.
I also like the details in the store, and would've liked to see more gradients rather than just two or three. Overall, cool concept.
The level for intermediate is confusing to me, but I say in. ^^

For some reason the perspective is really bugging me... it looks like the stores are sloping up? idk, could be me. um and the items in the store also look really flat?
but yeah, I really like the amount of detail you put into this ^^

Ahahaha this is cute

I'm no good with solids so I don't have a whole lot of crits bout how you colored it.. only I would've liked to see some more intense shading, particularly on the shirt, but I really like your shading so uh yeah :P. Also, the paws. The one strumming is paw-like, while the one fingering is human hand-like... they should both look the same. The mic looks very flat; mics are cylindrical, so the end of it and the stand it's sitting on should curve a little. Where the stand is sitting on the bottom part of the stand is off... um kinda hard to explain but depending on the angle it'll be in the middle of it.. um... yes....
Uh I'll leave the anatomy/rest of the crits to someone more knowledgeable than me.

On your next tryout, I would like to see more of a background that interacts with the character?
I really like the texture and hues of the hair, and would've liked to see stronger lighting... Though I am a sucker for shadows and lighting.
Anatomy wise, the torso seems alittle long, and the thighs short compared to the calves. I do however really like the tail, it is very flowing. Very cool character design.

Though I would've liked to see a more interactive background, and must say, the gray lines underneath the black is very interesting. Can't wait to see your next tryout ^^

Uhhh for your next tryout we definitely wanna see more of a background... even though I kinda like the look of it, in a tryout you should really try to give it your all :3
