today was pretty awesome
i played with a puppu while his qt guy owner went to class
theeeeeen i found a bunch of my friends and my bff from orientation >w<
and we all got free ice cream
then i got a free balloon
but then
i stepped on glass and it went through my sandal lol
so i walked over a mile with a hole in my foot and drove myself to the hospital

This is my fursona Rye
she's a thylacine/jackal/coyote/tiger thing
I've had her since 2007 (jan)
I draw her anthro sometimes, and sometimes quadruped
I also have an elaborate story / comic / movie / ??? in the works and it centers around her.

I didn't feel like drawing arms today.

Anyway HI I'm Rye and this is also Rye but you can call me Rye. Or whatever. I've also gone by Crow, so you can call me that too. Crow is my alternate "fursona" idk, she's more like a main character rather than a fursona now. I wanted a new fursona a while back and put Rye aside and started with Crow, but now I'm back with Rye since like, last year sometime.

Yes she has a badass shark hoodie that shoots radioactive lazers from its eyes.
be jealous.

So yeah I assume since I got like 5 "ins" on my tryout, that means I've been accepted.

I found a really good ref for this so I put it on the side

Yeah I'll do that little list thing like Jazzy.
-It does look really stiff, I think alot of it is because the mane. Maybe if it's walking or trotting but it wouldn't hang straight down like that at a canter.
-same as the others for the tail
-The wrong hind leg is forward.
-Watch out for color bleeds, it's not a major thing but it definitely takes away from the picture when you see a square of pink that would be easily noticed if you checked over the pick

and yeah the rubbery effect Jazz was saying is probably cause you're relying too much on the bezier tool, I mean, using it is all fine and dandy, it makes for quick and clean lines, but try and make it look more natural after the fact if you're doing like, the whole side of the leg with it. Then yeah trying to blend the shading a little more never hurt anyone.

And since apparently we're voting on the 1st tryouts now I vote in :D

and yeah refs are amazing, and are the things you really learn the most from
especially with stuff like this cause from memory I probably would've drawn the canter wrong cause it's pretty hard to pay attention to leg positions while there's so much motion going on, and you don't have to blame yourself at all :P You did a really great job

I live for cantering, so I guess that's why I'm so fond of the position. I typically always use a reference, but I for some reason didn't this time.

I've only been doing lessons so far though so I only get to canter when my instructor says ;w; I might lease a horse after I get my license though then I could do it whenever :D
I'm really hoping she'll have me try jumping soon though, it looks super fun *w*

I ride primarily English, and yes, I jump, sometimes bareback too :D. I ride a 13 year old 13hh Missouri Fox Trotter Mare, she's a "Smutty" Buckskin. We jump 1-2ft in lessons, but I have jumped 2-3 feet before. "My" horse sometimes jumps way higher than the jump would suggest. She's a real cool horse. I also ride a 16.3hh Percheron Draft Mare, she's 24(?) though so she mainly walks and trots. Though we do also vault on her. :) I stood on her back once. I also ride a quarter horse, shes 14.3 and 22 years old. We're also getting a Fjord, who is 14hh. I used to ride another Missouri Fox Trotter who was 16.3, he was amazing. His canter was really beautiful and fun to ride.
I don't own any of the horses, I just ride for their owners. I work at the ranch they are boarded at :P I feel really lucky <3
I've also briefly ridden an amazing thoroughbred, and sat on another who was said to buck people off a lot haha. And I rode a shetland pony in a circle, then got off because I didn't want to hurt it. She's 11hh, and I weighed wayyyy too much for her lololol

i've been riding for 8 years at the same yard. ...the end!
no but my favourite pony to ride is a black gelding called bobby and i think he's around 14hh? i'm not sure.
anyway yeah whenever people talk about horse riding i get all giddy because it's like, i couldn't live without it
i think the highest i've jumped is 4ft... mara you will like jumping it is insanely fun despite the fact that i have very little confidence

The pony I ride is a paint, Willy, when I first met him I was thinking "aww such a cute little paint" and he turned out to be this major brat.

Seriously it's the thing I look forward to learning the most~ and for me I know I can do stuff if I try but when it comes to like, competitive things I have zero confidence whatsoever. I know some people that get better in competitive situations (ex. my brother) but ugh.. it just makes me nervous and I constantly feel like I'm going to mess up. so it's more that type of thing I'm worried about.
but holy crap 4 feet xD that's like, jumping over a 3rd grader standing up

and I've noticed that like, all ponies names end with "-y" cause like.. the few I know are Willy, Candy, Lilly and then your Bobby are all named like that
I always find that funny lol

i mean when i turned the corner and saw the jump i was like shit what am i doing but i had to push on... imean it's not like i was going to bail now!! luckily i was on a very sensible and talented horse and she was like wheeeee
i ride with my friend rosie and have done for 8 years, we're at the same level which is good. she has the confidence that i lack but i have better balance, so we both manage to do things

that's awesome though, yeah I haven't found any irl riding friends yet to just ride with, they're probably easier to find when you're not just doing lessons I would imagine. I have good balance too, which I'm glad for. Otherwise there are a couple of times where I might have fallen off xD

I guess when I'm focusing on stuff I get like that too cause one time when I was with my old instructor and we'd just just started cantering so I'm like OH GOD HOW DO YOU SIT THIS and was all srs face trying do it and I finally did it and I was all ! :D :D :D :D and she's like yay! you smile! cause I guess I get pretty srs face while concentrating too

Ah I love this (:

I'll just do some quick crits because I'm lazy haha:

-This looks very...stiff? Idk maybe try and make it flow more if that makes sense.
-It also looks rubbery? Especially the legs and the way you shaded it. I don't know if it's your style but try and make more angles (that doesn't make sense haha) and try not to make everything so curvy.
-The main and tail really confuse me. The main is just..there. Even though the horse is galloping, and I'd look up some pictures on google for the tail! It looks more like a dog's tail. Remeber that their tails are basically just hair attatched to a small ..bone thing.
-I think the background could be a bit more defined, too? Maybe add darker shadows where the fence is and where the horses hooves are.

You'll have no problem in getting in, though! You've got some great art ; U ;

Ah, Thanks for the crits!

As for the mane/tail thing, the reason the mane is down is because he/she is just starting to lift up into the canter, and the tail is up because it's a young horse and they tend to be more spirited with their tail.
I'm not sure how it looks like a dog tail, but I'll still work on making it more believable as a horse tail none the less.

OTL And the shading I will for sure work on as well because honestly this is my first time shading a horse. I've been drawing them all summer, however.

Aside from the things already said, the subject is nicely drawn. :'D I like its pose and the face a bunch! My only crits are that the background could indeed be further refined. (But I'm one to talk, backgrounds are something I still have to work a bit harder on) And the shading on the horse could be cleaned up just a tad. Otherwise, great job on the picture! :) Horses can be pretty tough to draw (at least they are for me lol), and you pulled it off just fine!
