It's the least active board and we closed it off so that we could have an area to discuss it all, and I'm still not sure why discussions leaked into this oekaki...

& I know this won't be anything I show people when I'm presenting my work haha. I was just really concerned the first time I came on here and it said "meth meth meth." I was very startled! That didn't seem presentable at all!

Junko I think you misunderstand a little bit.

It's not that the site continued to run because of you. It's that you left the site completely and had other people take care of it for you without any sort of apology for your absence or anything.

Not expecting anyone to be here isn't really an excuse, there was a community when you left, if you knew you would be gone for so long it would have been better to just say flat out that the oekaki was shutting down or something. Instead of leaving completely and jsut expecting the community to fizzle out...

Also trust me I'm really not doing this to spite you or be mean or anything, I promise you that. It's just that this oekaki and the community means a whole lot to me so something like this happens, I feel they need to know.

I am not an artist, nor am I creative in any way. I only comment on posts here when absolutely necessary.

There have been a few items of concern, specifically regarding this "new look" of this Oekaki.

Please remember that, the "Weazie" name does not belong to any one person, it belongs to all of us.

Junko started this Oekaki from the ground up, in fact, she introduced me to Oekaki's, and asked me to host this one. She is the one that made this possible.

She somehow gathered everyone here at Weazie because you held some type of similar interest.

So I hosted her oekaki board, and continued to maintain it.

That being said, you are the one's that kept this board alive over the years, trust me, that does not go unnoticed. In fact, this board would be beyond dead if it wasn't for the active members (you know who you are).

I don't have the time to be babysitting social disputes.

So is there some type of compromise that can be derived of this?

If not, let me know. I can take care of it easily.

this wouldn't really be a social dispute if truly active members that had maintained the site as much as they could, and the community if theyd had the admin powers theyd needed that they were unable to have because of Junko being absent for roughly five years
we're not children with a babysitting issue.
we're just frustrated with how things have played out over so long and suddenly being kind of told what to do after this huge ass absence

duuuuuude this has to be my favorite of all the ones we've seen. The thickened o works amazingly now with partnering up on the "ekaki" so it doesn't blend awkwrdly like the others had.
The size diference on the words really makes it i think with the readability and how the two tones seperate it properly
im just dang dang dang if we have to take a final vote, this one has mine

I love the two colors, it really helps with the readability and helps the marker/pen become more evident.
Is there a reason that you scooted 'eazie' over into the 'O' (where the 'A' intersects)? Because I liked how the O had wrapped itself around the A..but then again maybe that causes an unwanted emphasis on the 'EA' and disconnects it too much from the 'ZIE'. blahblahblah, sorry guys i'm thinking aloud.
Well, the only other real critique I have is maybe add a little more of the lighter green background where the marker is to help the 'W' become more apparent, because it can almost be taken as an 'N'.
But this is definitely *AMAZING*--I agree with what everyone else has said so far, so this would have my vote :3

ahhhh arf yeah you hit the nail on the head about the eazie thing, i had to put a border around it cause the darker, thicker O covered the A too much, and even when the logo was put on a layer behind it it didnt look right ahaha so it just kept separating the ea and the zie too much OR it just blended into the O too much and looked weird

also i was just thinking the same thing about the pen bit last night, I may just invert the colors there or make it a slight bit lighter because i could mistake if for neazie too lmao.

Although I do like the "vibe" this is portraying for Weazie, I believe it's brought off a bit sloppy?
If the 'W' & 'O' combination is portraying the pen stroke, it should be the same color and width (until you might taper off the end or whatever).
For hierarchy, the "WO" should hold highest, but the "eazie" is too bulky and powerful. I think you could make the type more unified by matching the justification of the ends of Weazie & Oekaki. I'm still not a a crazy fan of this font.

I do agree that this is our best CONCEPT so far.

I really appreciate you putting so much work and concept into the idea though Moo. It means a lot to me that a lot of you guys want to keep this site up and running; keeping the Weazie family together.

Like I said at the beginning, but no one wanted to listen to me or something...
A logo design must start out black and white/ positive and negative. Color can only enhance.
What if I wanted to put this logo as a heading to a paper, business card, etc.? The tablet pen would be lost.

After web design class, i'm going to work on this concept. I'll post by the end of today. Promise

yeah that's what i mean, you study graphic design so you're more inclined to do everything professionally and whatever but it's like

we don't really need to go through the motions of like, considering what the logo would be like on a business card or making it black and white first and adding colour later because it's just for the oekaki??

i understand that it might be frustrating that people are supporting heather's design when it hasn't been put through the whole process that you're used to doing with schoolwork but i think everyone agrees that it's just more suited to the oekaki's vibe.

YEAH totally, and I know what you mean (I studied marketing/graphic design for a few years so I'm at least not new to any of this lol, I'm not gonna claim to be an ~expert~ or anything tho) but I wonder if you're maybe expecting too much of us sometimes? there's not really any kind of deadline we're looking at so right now we're just chilling out w/ some rough concepts and having a nice pleasant discussion about them you know, this is basically just a sketch? we can always refine later yo :cool:

(and idk about you but at least for me black on white is too harsh and distracting for things like this? I find it really difficult to work w/ black on white at least at first so if I'm working with values I save it for later, I think this is really just heather sketching with colors that are comfortable for her to sketch with at this point in development?)

I like the thickness of the font on the bottom one--but "ekaki" seems more disconnected from the "O". Not sure if that will mess with the readability of Oekaki.

Overall, I think they're all three really great concepts! Brilliantly done<3<3

ah yes I was thinking that thickening the O would help with that!! I was gonna do that last night but mytablet has been having some major issues lately so I couldn't get it to cooperate lol.. I'll be trying again tonight with that!

it may even be as simple as making the ekaki part the same color as the logo, I'll try thatas well :3

I agree the 'O' really needs to be more defined since it kind of looks like a fancy 'W' right now ;w; I think the pen could be a bit more obvious too but that can wait until the text itself is done!

I love the combination of the W & O plus tablet pen,
but i'm not a fan of whatever font that is.

Also, I feel as if the O should be more prominent so it reads more as an O; "WO"

whats wrong with the font exactly? idk i feel like it flows nicely with the rest of it and it isnt too sharp or anything

i figure we're looking for a more "fun" approach so making it too sharp or linear or whatever would just make it look too stiff. straight edges are a bit too boring for weazie i think?

idk i just feel the aesthetic is nice and fits the theme we're looking for but i'd like to hear what your opinions on the font are

I'm really pumped for this design. I think the WO flows really well for leading into the rest of the words. I like the font a lot, it's fun and really fits the feel of the oekaki

junko if the font's a problem then yeah we could always either A. just use the image on its own (change the color for each board, write the full board title in a banner or text box thing and you're good to go?) or B. maybe you could suggest some more appropriate fonts to go with it? you sound like you have more experience with this sort of thing than us lol

i do agree that the o should be a bit thicker, once i get a chance ill edit this file a bit to make the O thicker and change around the font if anyone else feels the font should be changed :O

but tbh im pretty happy with this font so ? ? ? as long as the majority of everyone else is happy with it too then im ok with keeping it as is

ALSO YEAH i'll see if i can get to the college's library computers at some point this week to work on a vector (if not ill jut try to see if i can get an illustrator trial on this laptop) :OO id like to be able to get a final design for it before i vector it though..? i could always just make a really high res version of it in photoshop and/or sai instead of illustrator too tbh. wouldnt be too hard i dont think?

just cause i cant imagine us needing it to be any sort of huge ridiculous size lmao. but still i have no problem making a vector of it if thats what all you guys want!! :3

oh yeah I'm p sure photoshop's pen tool does vector lines so that should work if nothing else? you could always just save it as a .psd and maybe pass that around if anyone wants to make any changes to it etc

BUT YEAH I def agree that this could use some work but it's a step in the right direction imo? so if anyone wants to take it upon themselves to develop any of these concepts further I think this one would probs be the one we should be focusing on
